I <3 Electro
I’ve been going to France since about birth, and since I can remember, Electronic music has always had a strong influence on the European party scene. When you watch MTV in Europe, the majority of the music videos played are in fact Techno, House or Dance music. If the random hit made it over to the States, it would usually be labeled “euro trash.” But times are changing…
Electronic music is now the new thing. People who would have never associated the word “house” with a type of music rather than a structure are now becoming fans of the latest wave of alternative electronic music. During highschool, I would only go to the Roxy on Sunset to see rock bands, but when my friend invited me to go see the very popular and one of my personal favorites, MSTRKRFT, I couldn’t turn it down. I was so intrigued by the thought of hearing electro in such a small venue and on a stage where musicians with guitars usually stand, not with head phones and in front of a laptop. When we got there the line was down the street and luckily I saw someone I knew right at the front that let us cut. When finally let inside, I had never seen the Roxy so packed. Every inch was filled with someone hands in the air, bumping their whole body to the music. It was an insane night and I was amazed by how much support these non-europeans were giving them.
Another example is the Daft Punk mania that has made its way over to the States as well. Daft Punk has been around since the 80s. They reached significant popularity in the 90s in Europe, but since their performance at Coachella in 2006, it seems like the whole world loves Daft Punk. I see Daft Punk bumper stickers now, and they jh=ust released their live album due probably to their sold out concerts all over the world. I have seen them twice and I can most definitely say that Daft Punk, Coachella 2006 was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Everyone was losing their mind on how great they were. It definitely went down in history.
So the electro trend has definitely caught on. Clubs in L.A. even have electro themed nights. Hip Hop seemed to always be the choice before but not anymore. Names like Boyz Noize, Toxic Avenger, D.I.M, Steve Aoki, Surkin, Digitalism, and many many many more are coming to town!

Its happy to hear that you are interested in alternative music. i listen to alternative music when i’m anywhere but the gym. i need something a lil more up tempo hard core.. rap.. odd.. Alternative music transcends my soul to another dimension.. the music i listen to mostly is just instrumental..lil bit of lyrics.. checkout 89.9kcrw mon, wed-fri 8pm-12pm.. you can go to the website 2 days later and find the songs you like… Also there is 88.9 Alien-Air.. i think from 7pm-10pm on Sundays only.. you can also go to the website to find a song you like.. Now this station is just what it is called Alien Air..its out there..
I think the reason why we prefer music media over televised media.. when we were with our mothers for 9 months.. all we could absorb are vibrations.. hopefully more good than bad… music media vs. televised media.. 3000 pictures a day (advertisers) thats thrust upon us.. with music we have a choice.. thus happier again
Skye, I like some of that Stuff. I have been hearing it for quite some time. I would always try to play the same way as those people did. I never knew that groups were out there until three years ago. But, As I have said, I have heard this music for years.
I have been for two years now, and you got no idea how i miss european party…I have been out here in L.A a bunch of times, to the clubs that everyone talk about, and without offending anyone, I could not stand the music and the scene I have seen in many of them. I don’t get this Hip-Hop music and the way people dance to it! It’s all about cars, money, girls and being famous and rich… You try to dance and there is this guy trying to grab you and asking to shake you ass all over him, BECAUSE THATS WHAT THE SONG IS TELLING HIM IS ALL ABOUT!It doesn’t matter if you tell him, “Sorry, I don’t dance”, he will still grab you and try you to shake you ass all over him.
I have been in many countries all around Europe, in different clubs and scenes, and most european clubs have a common denominator; the music. The music changes everything in a party night. When you dance to electro music, house music, techno house music…you dance to the music, to the beat. And I love it! Most songs have a different message than money, girls and cars. Many of them don’t even have lyrics, all you listen to is a really cool beat, drums, saxophone… and your body if full with the rhythm. Ok, I just miss Europ too much! Hehehe.
